The Master Builders Association (MBA) Sourthern Regions Building Excellence Awards encourage, promote and recognise best practice in residential and commercial building across southern New South Wales, rewarding outstanding workmanship, innovation and teamwork. Every entry is personally inspected by a panel of eminent judges who also interview key site personnel in reaching their decisions.
The region for this competition is the Southern Regions, covering Illawarra, South Coast, Far South Coast, Snowy Mountains and Southern Highlands Regions.
2021 Master Builders Association (MBA) Awards
Hudson Building Services won 2 awards for this amazing house in Dalmeny at the 2021 Southern Regions Excellence in Building Awards held in March 2022.
Winner - Best Contract Home in its price category
Project: Estuary House – Dalmeny
Judge’s comments: Estuary House is a house cut into the side of the hill, so that the upstairs living flows onto the natural ground level. The house features plywood joinery on the ceilings and walls.
Clearance tolerances on doors were minimal due to the height of floor to ceiling doors. The brickwork was of a high standard.
Winner - Best Use of Bricks
Project: Estuary House – Dalmeny
Judge’s comments: This project features incredible brickwork. Brick joints were even throughout the dwelling. Feature bricks & mortar was a constant colour throughout the job. A job well done.
2021 Master Builders Association (MBA) Awards
Hudson Building Services also won the Best Contract Home in its price category for this beautiful house in Narooma.

Project: Narooma
Judge’s comments: This house features high raked ceilings which continued across the outside deck. Hardwood flooring featured in living areas. The project is well finished & the workmanship throughout the dwelling is of a high standard.
2018 Master Builders Association (MBA) Awards
Hudson Building Services has won the Best Contract Home in its price category award at the annual MBA Regional Building Excellence Awards in June 2018 for this new house in Dalmeny.

Project: Dalmeny
Judge’s comments: A home well orientated to take advantage of the northerly aspect. Excellent workmanship includes timber floors and tile finishes to bathrooms and a well presented kitchen. Attention to detail impressed the judges.
2017 Master Builders Association (MBA) Awards
Winner - Apprentice of the Year - Mitchell Jeffrey
Congratulations to our own Mitch Jeffrey for winning the 2017 Master Builders Association Apprentice of the Year at the recent Excellence in Regional Building Awards. With Mitch recently completing his carpentry qualification at Hudson Building Services, it’s great for him to be formally recognised for his effort and skill he showed throughout his apprenticeship.
2016 Master Builders Association (MBA) Awards
Hudson Building Services has won 3 awards at the annual MBA Regional Building Excellence Awards in June 2016 for a new house in Dalmeny.
1. Winner - Best Contract Home in its price category
Project: Dalmeny
The house was designed by Philip Leeson Architects, a Canberra based architect firm, along with the owner who is an interior designer. A lot of emphasis was put into the detail and quality of inclusions right throughout the house. The use of both new and recycled timber was used extensively internally and externally to create the look and feel that the owner was after.
Polished concrete has been used downstairs with a ‘Salt and Pepper’ finish to compliment the recycled timber. The house is highly exposed to the environment in a coastal location so building methods and the type of materials were a high priority to ensure the house would withstand the harsh conditions over time.

3. Winner - Certificate of Excellence in Carpentry
Project: Dalmeny
Judge’s comments: Rob’s attention to detail shines through on this project. From the front entry door, polished concrete floor and the heavy use of different timber species, this project was always going to shine. Vertical shiplap boarding to 5.0 metre high exterior walls, curve top surface decking, dry stone chimney breast, glass panel stairs with timber hand rail and treads. Spring action polished stainless steel hinges to internal doors were all noted. This project fits well with the streetscape.

2014 Master Builders Association (MBA) Awards
Hudson Building Services has again won an award at the annual MBA Regional Building Excellence Awards in June 2014 for this knock-down and rebuild house in Dalmeny:
Winner - New Residential House in its price category
Project: Dalmeny
Judge’s comments: This home was a knockdown/rebuild located on a headland within 50 metres of breaking surf and in direct line of sea mist.
The architectural features of this home were striking, with a range of composite materials. The judges were highly impressed with the high standard of finish and the builders’ commitment to producing a quality product.

2012 Master Builders Association (MBA) Awards
Hudson Building Services has won an award at the annual MBA Regional Building Excellence Awards in June 2012 for this knock-down and rebuild house in Potato Point.
Winner - New Residential House in its price category
Project: Potato Point
Judge’s comments: This home is located on a cliff top and is also in a brush fire zone. The builder faced many challenges but the end result is of a standard that impressed the Judges.
This project was a demolition/rebuild and although not over the top in size, provided more than its fair share of challenges. Located on top of a headland cliff meant that all precautions needed to be met for corrosion and weather conditions that the house will face over the coming decades. The property is also at the same time in a severe fire zone of BAL 40 which meant that exposed timber could not be used on the project.

2011 Master Builders Association (MBA) Awards
Hudson Building Services won 3 awards at the annual MBA Regional Building Awards in June 2011 for this new house in Dalmeny:
1. Winner - New Builder of the Year - Rob Hudson
Judge’s comments: The judges were impressed with this Builder and his commitment to delivering quality projects given his limited time operating within the building industry. He is relatively new to the construction scene. He however displays an impressive level of understanding and great dedication and enthusiasm for his work. The judges were of the unanimous view that he be awarded “New Builder of the Year”.
2. Winner - New Residential House in its price category
Project: Dalmeny
Judge’s comments: This is an exceptionally well constructed home with numerous outstanding features including chestnut secret nailed floor and black butt stairs. The judges commented on the quality of the external cladding and the attention to detail in creating this beautiful home to the clients specific requirements.
3. Winner - Certificate of Excellence for External Cladding
Project: Dalmeny.
